As many people know by now, Lauryn Hill was given three months for failing to pay taxes.

The eighth time Grammy award-winning singer left the federal court in Newark New Jersey after receiving her three month prison sentence. According to the courts, she received this sentence for failing to pay $1 million over the past 10 years.
The singer got her fame to claim by first singing with the “The Fugees“, before beginning her own solo career. According to Ms. Hill. “I am a child of former slaves who had a system imposed on them,” Hill said before U.S. Magistrate Madeline Cox Arleo. “I had an economic system imposed on me.”
In addition to serving three months in prison, Hill must pay a $60,000 fine. After she is released from prison, she will be under parole supervision for a year, the first three months of which will be spent under home confinement.
