Problems In Rio – City Is Not Ready For The Games

The tragedy of the American female student that was gang raped on a public bus in Rio de Janeiro and whose boyfriend was beaten with a crowbar and forced to watch, speaks volumes about the city’s preparation and public support of the 2014 World Cup, and the 2016 Olympic Games occurring within their city.

Let’s not forget about the backdrop of events that have occurred over the last few months on the international scene. To think that there has not been a connection with the gang rape of the medical student in India not too long ago would be absurd. Entering in a public transport bus with a crowbar in a tacking two foreigners, beating and bounding the male that was with her, and then beating and raping the female seems extremely pre-meditated!

As far as foreigners visiting the city for the World Cup and the Olympic Games, this is a major negative below! To travel around the world to a city that has never hosted either of these events is already asking a tremendous amount for foreigners to endure. On top of this, visitors will be visiting a country where a very small amount will even speak the language. Having the backdrop of foreigners being beaten and raped will never leave their minds. Many people that were thinking about visiting the games, will ultimately make the decision not to visit the World Cup or The Games because of this event!

On top of all of this, just yesterday a public bus flew over an over-pass and crashed and killed around 10 people. It is said that that event occurred because the bus driver and patron got into an argument.

Rio de Janeiro needs to wake up! Events like this can never occur, and they certainly cannot occur if the city is looking to pull off hosting two of the most major public events in the world!
